REPORT OF COMMUNITY DAY CEREMONY HELD ON 29 NOVEMBER 2013 AT RAILA ODINGA GROUNDS.

REPORT OF COMMUNITY DAY CEREMONY HELD ON 29 NOVEMBER  2013 AT RAILA ODINGA GROUNDS.
INTRODUCTION
Community day is the special day established by the university aimed at meeting all university community and other public around Mwanza especially Malimbe society. Community day is normally conducted one day before university graduation every year in which all departments get chance to show what they doing within the community.
2013/2014 Community Day were prepared by the students themselves under students government ( Sautso) in collaboration with SAUT Students Public Relations Association. The themes of the event was “Linking SAUT with business companies to achieve excellence education”.  Community day events started at 9:00 am where the guest of honor was Rt. Rev. John Ndimbo, the chair man of University Council arrived community day grounds. DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC RELATIONS AND ADVERTISING
During event of community day all activities concern the department of public relations were under SAUT Public Relations Association (SSPRA) SSPRA. These students organized themselves under the department for the assistance Ms. Adeline Mpuya and Mr Frank Katabi who helped and ensure all plans and activities performed in good way.
The honorable guest attended in our tent at 1:00 pm where they saw what we prepared and appraised for our good work before leave to the tent of mass communication students. Where we prepared key holders, handkerchiefs which contain university logo and dedicative words also we had brochures, flies, and other Pr tools of communication. The guest of honor was interested with our activities and promised to assist us to have our own laboratory so that we can monitor and publicize all activity pertaining to Public Relation.
ACHIEVEMENTS OF  COMMUNITY DAY FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC RELATIONS AND ADVERTISING.
The following were the achievements during the community day ceremony of 29-11-2013.
1 .Exhibition was very good since many people satisfied with what and how public students explained different publications and other skills of their career.
2. Many people imparted knowledge by public students through oral explanation and written publications.
3 .Fund raising through selling the university holders, SSPRA holders and hand chiefs
4. Rectruitment of new members joined SSPRA. This was mainly because of good work done by SSPRA members in which many other students impressed therefore join the association.
5. SSPRA was promised the office and laboratory by the university management especially after realizing that many university events have been prepared by the SSPRA members.
WEAKNESS FOR DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC RELATIONS AND ADVERTISING DURING COMMUNITY DAY
1. Delaying of budget .Budget for preparation of community day especially tent of public relations was came very late led the failure of some important things e.g priting of soft publications.
2. Distribution of tents was very late led to failure of proper preparation of tent to see the way we planned since tents were distributed the day of events.
3. Lack of public communication tools like burners from the department.
4. General time table was not followed accordance to prior arrangement because guests were supposed to reach at grounds at 2:30 but they reached at 10:30 am. This led guest use short time in our tent.
5. Insufficient budget. In spite of budget being very late also it was not enough to facilitate all activities planned by responsible people. This resulted SSPRA use the association fund to cover some deficit.
6. Lack of tents. Generally tents were not enough resulted some associations to be combined into one tent and some departments given small tents something threaten the success of event at general.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Ø  The department and SSPRA should prepare burners, brochures and other publication that shows and dedicate the history, functions, and activities of  the department and SSPRA as the part of improvement.
Ø  We advise the department and management at general to make all preparation early especially on the community day environment
Ø  Fund should be increased to fulfill all demands of all preparation so as to avoid the uses of SSPRA fund in the exhibition
Ø  We also suggest the involvement of external companies to support the event as the theme of event was dedicating to these companies

CONCLUSION
We appreciate the concern of everyone who contributed the successes of the event particularly the department of Public Relations and Advertising under supervision of Ms. Adeline Mpuya, Mr. Lila Mandu and Mr. Frank Katabi An all SSPRA members.
